Life is Fruity
“The home should be the treasure chest of living” - Le Corbusier
One-story house surrounded by trees – right next to a housing complex.
This house is a replica of Antonin Raymond’s house, built by its owner Shuichi.
70 different kinds of seasonal vegetables and 50 different kinds of fruit are cooked with a spice of love by Hideko, Shuichi’s lifelong partner.
Shuichi had been working as an architectural designer and taking part in various urban development projects.
In the 1960s, a new sustainable housing development plan full of trees and nature was advocated by Shuichi. However, it turned out that area with no character and no nature-human coexistence housing complexes were built instead.
Later on, he stepped aside and bought land at this housing complex. He built a house, and he planted trees with Hideko gradually and with care. Fifty years or so has passed, and now Shuichi is asked to be part of a “project”…
Born January 3, 1925. After graduating Tokyo University, he had worked at construction design office, later at Japan Housing Authority. He was involved with various urban development projects. He was also a professor at a couple of universities. Once he purchased the land in Aichi prefecture, he and Hideko had slowly started self-sufficient agricultural life style for over 50 years. He pass away at the age of 90 in 2015.
Born in January 18, 1928. Raised as the daughter of Sake brewers in Aichi prefecture. Married with Shuichi at the age of 27. She and Shuichi have 2 daughters. She likes farming, cooking, knitting, weaving…something that she can take a very good care of with lots of time and love.
